OT: energy again

So the bastards at BES called me and sort of pretended to apologise for ripping me off at over £1.20 per unit but I was in a contract* until August so they were at liberty to continue to do so.

They kindly offered to release me from that contract early if i'd agree to a new one at 48p (I managed to talk them down to 40p). I presume they are employing this strategy because come August i'd have dropped them like a bag of burning shit as would other customers in a similar position, in their droves.

So the same questions keep popping up, if they can do 40p why in the f*ck have I been paying 60/80/120? And why is it still a sight more expensive than what i'm paying at home.

Obviously those are rhetorical questions.

But it's impossible not to seethe with rage when our December bill for example which was nearly a grand should have been nearer £300 :(

*Market tracker, if other suppliers screw their customers, we will screw you.

Never heard of them. Sounds like a reseller often referred to as bottom feeder. Brian

The clue may be in the word business, and not domestic.

Presumably you've been paying £1.20 because you signed a contract to do so.

They are doing it because the new contract will be more valuable to them than the old contract. Expected loss of business in August, good will, may be a factor, but not necessarily so.

The at home rates are subsidised by the government.

Damn, I wasted my time :-)

These contracts are essentially bets, a lot of the suppliers bankrupted themselves by losing bets that they hadn't hedged. Regulators probably shouldn't have allowed them to do that.

You might just as well rage at the roulette table, when you lose.

It might be, but a market tracker should be tied to prices observable in the market. Prices that can't be rigged.
