When was the last time anyone - anyone - was convicted under the various acts ? Certainly for *personal* use.

The real question is whether neutral spirit and flavourings is a close enough mimic of the real thing.

I was amazed at the price of 1 litre bottles of what looked like genuine Johnny Walker whisky on sale in Paraguay back in 1990 when I was travelling through South America. Peanuts.

I was given a bottle of Glen Marnoch which is an Aldi or Lidl own brand single malt. I thought it was very pleasant. It wasn't something amazing with deep complex flavours and nose but a pleasant single malt Whisky. I'd buy it again.

Not viable for your own personal use.

The other problem with diy single malt is the 50 year aging etc.

Bit difficult to get it as good as the best single malts with that.

That is why I know that it is very easy to do.

Depends on what you mean by the real thing.

As good as the cheapest stuff.

Nothing like the best 50 year aged single malts.

And 50 year aging is a bit of a problem for diy too.
