My address book in Outlook Classic has become detached from my contacts and is now empty. I have I think tried all the suggestions from Microsoft and AI. I have also reinstalled Microsoft 365 and still there is nothing showing in the address book.

Apart from junking Outlook in favour of a more user-friendly email client, does anyone have any ideas about what could be going on?

Before doing that, if you sign-in to Outlook on the web, do you see any contacts?

Thanks for your efficient response. Before I try this, this is Outlook Classic so will this data be on the web version?

I think you said you'd installed M365? In which case, yes ...

I did that and 'something' immediately uploaded. This looks like my contacts but with many appearing twice. There are still no contacts showing in the Outlook (Classic) address book.

Well all I wanted to show was that your stuff isn't gone ... not sure where you should go next, export them to a csv for now?

Thanks. Done that and imported them into Outlook. There are many duplicates that I can sort out over time but first I'll try to explore whether there is a faster way of doing this.

Thanks. This seems to be it. I imported again preventing duplicates. The first name was missing but this was a 'mapping' problem.
