OT: Anyone using online prescription deliveries?

As a patient, I always have the option to go elsewhere and ask. (Which is one reason I would not go onto electronic prescriptions - as there were difficulties at one time.)

For reasons beyond my understanding, Boots almost always provide what I am happy with. Whereas most of the others don't. And I know in other areas, people get different makes even from Boots.

One make has the effect of causing stomach pain. And two other makes just seem slightly different and whilst it wouldn't be that awful to take them, I prefer not. The final make is new to the market and has never been offered to me.

The NHS Tariff prices are the same for all makes. What the pharmacy pays to its supplier, I have no idea.

Surgery system I have doesn't allow anything other than ticking the boxes. (I only have two items because of the precise dose. 100 + 25 - there are no 125 tablets in the UK.) I wish I could express what makes I am willing to accept.

Never used a delivery service but..

It may be worth checking if any local Pharmacies off a delivery service. I know someone who delivers (or did, I'm not sure he still does it) prescriptions for a localish pharmacy. I've no idea if there is a charge etc, it is just something he mentioned he did while chatting on the (amateur) radio. I suspect it MAY be Lloyds he work(s) for but only because I think I know the area I think he was covering and I think the local pharmacy is a Lloyds- I could be wrong.

...

On mine, there is a free text box under the repeat prescription items for additional requests.

I doubt the prescription would carry such a requirement, even if you did specify it. That is something you need to sort out with the pharmacist.

Yes - but it would be helpful if I could send that information with the request.

I have now got the pharmacy to put it on their records. But experience says that doesn't always work.

my doc prescribes one of my meds in quantities of 28

the pharmacists packet contains strips of 10

and it isn't once a day drug, it's take as required maximum dose 12 tabs (it's not clear what time period I have to wait before taking another 12)

Yes you don't have to get all of your prescriptions from them, just select the ones you need and continue to get bulky items via your normal system. I don't know if they can deliver bulky items as I don't have any.

Following an email advertising the service I tried. No meds arrived, no answer to contact telephone number only a recorded message saying delays due to excess demand.

I gave up and had meds delivered by surgery.

Why advertise a service when already unable to cope?

Mike

Thanks for the update Chris.

We have collected her prescription now so it gives us a month to get something online in place. ;-)

The packaged numbers issues are mad. For the same active ingredient, Germany usually offers 100 in a pack - but also (often) 50 and 98. Some countries use 30.

The MHRA even published a report which advised three-month prescriptions for this medicine.

Some years ago, I had another medicine as well which was as required. That too was on 28-day prescription despite them (and me) having no idea how much would be needed.

Someone already mentioned Pharmacy2U.co.uk My wife and I both use this service for repeat prescriptions. Just fill in a form on the website indicating which medicines are required and they arrive in the post in 2-3 days.

That's the one that never delivered mine. When I tried telephoning just got a message saying delays due to the pandemic!

I'm using Co-op, via the app. I was very resistant as I'm a bit phone-app zero tolerance, but given I could never contact my local pharmacy during early lockdown, it seemed worth it. So far, totally reliable and much less effort. A couple of taps to order, and it arrives after a few days by Royal Mail. You get to pick what you want to re-order, with a reminder when it is due.

Thanks.

With me, I would like to have it set to 'automatic' as I have one tablet a say and it shouldn't be rocket science to work out what the supply interval should be to service that need?

It's similar for the Mrs other than there are other items she requests as / when in which case it makes sense to be able to request those on demand (to come though on the next routine delivery). Alternatively and subject to the releasing of the lockdown, for the 'extras' to be picked up locally.

Whilst I've be assured the system can provide some of this flexibility, I'm not sure how it would work in practice?

Like, once you have subscribed to an online supplier, is there:

1) A tick box that says 'Carry on supplying the equivalent of one tablet a day until otherwise notified'? (for me)

2) A tick box that says 'Carry on supplying the equivalent of one tablet a day until otherwise notified' plus the option to tick other items 'as required'?

I'm not sure if the above is 'std' (I would think it should be as I'd imagine it's what most people would need), or if it's something that can very between different suppliers or isn't available at all (that you have to manually request routine meds every <interval>)?
