OT: a new scam

I got scammed at the end of last week. All sorted and no harm done,but the scammer told me that the normal security checks such asmother's maiden name etc was no longer being used, and everything wasbeing done via the Pinsentry system. After resistance from me Ieventually went along with it and gave him all he asked for! :-(As I said, no harm done because I immediately contacted my bank whoblocked everything, but be aware that the scammers are now trying touse the Pinsentry system to get account details etc from people whoare unfamiliar with Pinsentry.Different banks may have different names for the system. It'sbasically a card reader that can confirm a person's identity. It's apity the banks don't have a similar system for confirming who theyare, so that the private individual can check they're not talking to ascammer.

Lots these days only have a phone.

Don't think I've ever used mine for actual banking. Just need the app for touch payments.

That's odd. When my elderly next door neighbour's landline failed, I gave her one of my DECT phones and chargers. After checking it worked OK. Through two 9in brick walls and a passageway.
