[off topic] Stats showing letter delivery times?

Are there any regularly updated stats available which show the time in days taken by the Royal Mail to deliver letters?

Maybe on a week by week basis, so I could look at the stats and say: "If I order a widget and it is sent by first (or second) class letter mail right now, then it will probably take approximately x days."

Of course my question reflects the current Xmas/New Year arrangements as I am going to need to have parts delivered despite the holiday season.

I would far rather prefer not to have the cost of a courier delivery especially as it is inconvenient for someone to stay in for the delivery.

The Royal Mail website will have this I'd imagine,if anywhere has it .AFAIK most first class letters arrive next day .That's certainly my experience .I never send anyhting second class.

Thus spaketh Stuart:

I send most letters 2nd class and the vast majority of them arrive next day (so I am told).

Less than half of the first-class post arrives here next day. As for outgoing, a first-class letter posted early last Monday finally arrived this Saturday afternoon. So much for RM's 90+% claimed.

Mind you, we live on the Metropolitan Line and so are used to the elastic

90+%. ;-}

Not at this time of year. Three days is not unusual and the rate of total loss also goes up.

It only takes longer at Christmas because RM are to stingy these days to take on extra staff like they used to do not all that long ago we used to get around six delivery's a day around this time now we are lucky to get one before 2 PM.

Then use Special Delivery which does guarantee next day and (at least in my experience) arrives rather earlier than the ordinary post - or can be collected from the local sorting office. Also fully trackable online.

It's exactly this kind of fishy bureaucracy that always puts me off having seafood.

Mind you in certain towns where they can cope. they accellerate the 2nnd class so giving it a first class service at Christmas, so boosting traffic figures. FACT

I'm talking of years ago when RM used lorries and vans late in to the evening and couriers werent in such abundance as they are now . ..Either they got extremely efficient at delivering them during the day in the runup to Christmas or there is some other reason .Couriers was what came to mind

You dont need to clam, shell turn up in the end. They'll be fishing for it at the sorting depot. Cod be they had dock delays.

Our deliveries have greatly improved over the last few months, we're getting first class mail the day after it's been posted as well as parcels arriving very quickly. I'm happy.
