Do we really need a choice of three or four different bases for the SAME lightbulb? Perversely, in some stores, bayonet cap lamps and fitting are in the minority, or even not carried at all.

If getting out of the Single Market means retailers can no longer insistantly claim that Edison Screw are "standard", then I'm all for it. I've got really fed up of clueless little housewifes asking me to replace their light fittings because the "standard" bulbs they've bought don't fit them.

Something else that Brexiteers aren't going to get, then.

Having removed & replaced about 50 bolts in electrical sockets yesterday, I'm inclined to agree with you.

If anything we will all end up screwed.

The solution to a proliferation of competing standards is usually to introduce a new universal standard. Then you've got yet another standard to deal with.

Someone needs to invent a socket that takes all types of bulb cap.

That's only part of it. They drive on the wrong side of the road, use some odd measurement using Km and are unable to understand a final ring circuit......

If looks matter so much to you I'm surprised you use don't insist on "screwless" socket and switch plates.

I expect there is precisely such a socket out there somewhere, but it's only available among the well-connected elites. ;-)
