Private moderated newsgroups simply become echo chambers matching the bigotry of their moderators exactly.

Newsgroups with a narrow focus either get spammed out of existence or die from, boredom.

Yiu can kill file people or a subject line easily., If you dont like someone/some topic.

Thats the usenet way. If you don't like it bugger off somewhere else

Moderation brings the requirement for a moderator...

Such as perhaps, uk.misc, which has had two posts this year and which even the drug dealers gave up on at the end of 2023? It's pretty clear these days, of course.

I've mentioned uk.politics.misc a few times, and a couple of other posters use it.

And councils will issue free photo ID to those that request it for voting.

Allowing bank cards to be used is just stupid, as it totally removes any way to check the ID - it could be a friend or sibling who has "borrowed" a card and, with no photo, the staff will have no way of knowing.

+1

Moderated groups seldom work and tend to piss off most of the users as soon as one of their posts is censored.

The usenet is dying group by group and any more restrictions on groups with more than one post a week the more likely to accelerate this.

If I get bored with a thread I just ignore it.
