Microwavable thermometer

That's really weird: I was looking for exactly the same thing only a day or so ago.

Not sure of the value of thermometer whilst in use as it seems to me the biggest problem with microwaving is uneven heating (hence the need for standing time or intermittent stirring). A thermometer inside the microwave will only tell you the temp in the immediate vicinity of the sensing part.

Does it give you the temperature of the air in the m/wave? Is that is what you need for m/wave cooking? I would think the internal temperature of the cake/joint/whatever was much more important. And what's to stop the m/wave energy from being absorbed directly by the thermometer and giving very misleading readings?

The one linked to in another reply has a probe section to stick into what is being cooked. However, I would have thought the biggest problem would be reading it as it rotates on the turntable.

My first microwave oven (circa 1982) came with a probe with a a 1/4 inch jack that plugged into a socket in the cooking cavity. Not sure if it contained a thermocouple or a thermistor; I suspect the latter.

We had something similar. It was very useful for just heating something up, as instead of guessing a time, you could set a target temperature and a time to hold that temperature.

The idea of using a 1/4" jack for the connection was inspired, as it allowed the probe to roatate with the food on the turntable.

As it is worked on microwave radiation the water molecules are agitated and get hot, yes the air temp with be a thing but the main heating will be in the water content of the item being microwaved..

A female here thought her wheatabix would warm up without milk or water;!
