FYI
Spotted packs of three 9 LED torches in Homobase, complete with nine AAA batteries for a £5.
Handy little torches, very bright, about 90mm long x 20mm dia.

I got one of those wind up LED lantern things from B&Q. Two power cuts in one day made me think. The lanterns are dead good, a few winds gives you 20 mins of light and a full battery charge lasts for ages. No good for working with, but it will get you to the bathroom in the pitch black without you falling over the dog and breaking yer neck.

When the water company sent around people to look at the drains, they came after dark and used wind up LED torches.
I keep a dynamo torch in my car - originally USSR army issue, as they would survive the EMP from a nuclear attack.

Cheap wind up torches are a good idea but, IMHO, the winding mechanism always breaks prematurely.
