How to monitor house alarm

Apr 13, 2017 10 Replies

Hi all

I have a Honeywell alarm system and it has a mode where by it will send you a text message when it goes off etc. The setting requires a phone number f or seemingly a messaging centre. Does anyone know how this is supposed to w ork?

Also, when my home phone is rung twice one after another, some machine (i c an only assume the alarm as nothing else is connected to the land line) pic ks up the call and you can hear the old modem noises. If it is indeed the alarm, it implies that it can be remotely queried/ controlled.

I suspect these 2 things are related....Anyone any ideas?

Thanks

Lee.

Which model? AFAIK they bought up various other alarm companies over the years, so different products work differently ...

Thanks Andy. I believe it is a Honeywell Galaxy 2-20. I have mucked around a bit and added my number back in the mobile numbers section. When I set the alarm off after a little bit it errors with a SMS comms failure.

Do you know which TAP gateway it's configured to use?

07860 980480 = O2 = dead jim 07045 607101 = opentap

So daft question.... What's a tap gateway? Looking through the menu items i cant see anything that looks similar.

It's a number that can be phoned over a PSTN line, by a modem e.g. in an alarm system, to send an SMS or email

Thanks Andy. You are a star. Definitely using the wrong one. However, the a larm is saying manager reset required to clear the SMS error code. I have g one in to change the TAP number but not sure how to get back into the menu structure and do the manager rested.

Do you know the manager PIN? Or maybe the engineer PIN?

After some messing around I managed to get back to the menu with the engine er code. Not sure I could do it again though. I then restarted it and it se ems to have done the trick.

Using the new number you gave seems to have worked although it seems to tak e several minutes for the texts to get through. It seems to be very slowly going through the back log of alerts and i have noticed the time and date w ere wrong so now fixed it. Not sure which bit is causing the delay though.

Thanks very much Andy you star.

I now have the manual for the alarm system and it seems to support remote m anagement so any idea how this works? Seems like it has it dialing out or s omeone dialing in etc etc.

Beware the cost of calling various TAP gateways ...

You're welcome.

Not really, I think it can be serial connection to laptop, or modem connection to an servicing centre, you have to be Honeywell approved to get the software AFAIK, "Remote Servicing and User Management Suite" I have manuals, but never seem to be able to find Honeywell software or firmware ...

Thanks. Will do some more searching now i know what it is called and report back if I find anything of interest. Thanks again
