How much for this door and partition?

How much would you expect to pay for this:-

job has been done and we're trying to get a handle on whether the charges are reasonable (it was done as a part of a much larger refurbishment job, not just by itself).

It's a door from a communal passageway in a block of maisonettes to the rear garden area. The glass is obscured and wired safety glass. All the woodwork has been replaced but the section of wall (bottom right) was left unchanged. I *guess* it's "made to measure" but quite a number of identical ones would have been done at the same time I think.

It's in North London.

In UPVc? About £600-£1000 depending on the door. In timber, a lot less if it isn't custom built, about £100 - £200 less if it is, again depending on the door.

So you're saying £500 to £900 for a custom made wooden door & partition.

You could get it less but the quality is vary variable. TMH could probably knock one up insitu in a day with £100 worth of wood + a door, you may or may not be happy depending on the joints used. Butt joints with big screws and a biscuit or two would be OK for a few years, painting it would be the biggest problem for me.

I would DIY it if its wood and it would only take a couple of days with proper joints, etc. I have even DIY doors in the past but I think buying them is easier and doesn't actually cost much more.

The job has been done, we're just trying to work out whether the charge is reasonable, it would appear not! The work has been done by (or through) the local authority and the resulting bill (for a collection of refurbishment jobs) seems excessive and we're trying to get some idea of realistic prices for the work done.

The amount on the statement from the authority for the above door is £1700 (removal and replacement) plus all their overheads, profit, etc. which takes it to £2200 or so.

Get a double glazing company to quote.. it will give you something to wave at them.

Seems a fair price if work has been done to high standard it's impossible to tell what wood has been used and how it's been jointed ect.From the photo it looks a reasonable job.
