Hedge trimmer shot?

My Bosch will stall on anything thicker than 25mm and sometimes a on thinner piece if it is a rock hard dessicated dead branch.

I'd say the Makita was being realistic about the cutting capacity.

OTOH having a 30mm tooth pitch makes it easier to catch and cut a lot of smaller branches each pass. I generally use a big pair of bypass bolt cutter style pruning tool for anything thicker than 25mm - provided that I spot it before I hit it with the hedge trimmer.

It's not stalling - it'll stop between cuts. If I wait too short a time it'll stop before I can start cutting. Not hot at all.

If it's too thick I let thecutters go through slowly. For elderberry I go fast; for hawthorn it's slowly does it and no more than about 15mm.

Have you tried wiggling the cable where it enters the body? I've had several power tools where one of the conductors has broken at the point of maximum bending backwards and forwards - causing an intermittent contact. On each occasion, I've fix it by shorting the cable by a few inches and re-making the internal connections.

S*it!, no - must try to get a brain to insert, I need it. I hall have a wiggle and if that doesn't work I'll have a look at the trimmer.

Seconded - while visiting my parents yesterday, I repaired their hairdryer by cutting off 4 or 5 inches of the cable. It must be at least

Had a good wiggle of all bits of the cable (had to strap down one part of the switch - not good at hands-free wiggles at my age) and nothing! Typical, innit.

Still worth opening up, though. Could be a sick switch, or even a failure between that and the strain relief.

or the carbon brushes are worn out I have just replaced mine on a 17 year old Bosch hedge trimmer

Good point. Had that on an old car (had to bump-start it backwards then get home on side lights). New brushes and it ran like an old car again.
