Yup, stop eating meat, simples.

And that's the problem with many, they are too cowardly to face the real facts.

Bottom line, they like their meat / milk more than they care about the rights of animals, that's *all* there is to it.

It matters not how or where it lives, it matters not how little pain it feels when it it's killed, what *actually* matters is why some people care so little if an innocent, sentient animal dies or not, when in many / most instances it didn't need to at all.

So, if you like meat / milk / eggs and are aware of how animals are exploited to service your needs then fine, but you can't then also say that you care about 'animals' because you plainly don't, or not deeply.

You might *think* that 'animal cruelty is hitting one with an iron bar or not feeding it properly but there are many many more ways you can be party to equally bad physical and emotional cruelty, if you don't choose to look away.

So, either stand up and admit honestly (to yourself even) that you only care about the well being of *some* animals and mainly in between dinner times, or carry on trying to deceive yourself otherwise.

Do you rigourously adhere to speed limits ?.

In some parts of the world all the coconuts are removed in case they fall on someones head, kills them, and opens up a huge compo claim.

I think you will find we have always been omnivores / foragers, eating whatever was edible along the way.

It's much easier to grab some fruit or berries along the way than it is to catch most animals.

What I think you probably mean is that we may have managed livestock before we cultivated the land (which would make sense given there was plenty of wild fruit and veg to go around with that population)?

And that's my point re the pig leg joke, the parrot etc. Why does our dog ignore 10 people then bark at the one who is uncomfortable around dogs? We must exclude some form of 'signal' that dogs (or many animals no doubt) can pick up on but we are completely unaware of?

Most animals can do some pretty amazing things yet we often ignore that and just kill and eat them anyway, sometimes in huge numbers (it's suggested that we each eat ~4000 animals in our lifetimes).

Since going from 'mostly vegetarian', simply because we preferred not to each much meat to as vegan as we can since January, the only thing I can say I actually miss is egg/s.

We always (especially more recently) bought as free a range farm (= ' a bit less battery') as we could but knowing how chickens (even the best looked after) still spent their lives and the whole ethic of not wanting to exploit any animals, meant that we really couldn't carry on eating their eggs. That also means of course we don't want to eat anything that contains eggs (or milk / butter / cheese etc) so that just means being a bit more careful when shopping. Luckily, all such ingredients / allergens are normally listed in bold and you soon get used to the things that are fine.

Luckily, I prefer dark chocolate and even the Sainsbury's basics dark chocolate is milk free. ;-)

Daughter has bought us a couple of Vegan Easter eggs that look to be milk(less) chocolate so you really don't need to go without.

Apparently, there is a Vegan egg substitute that you can make into a good scrambled egg (there are loads of egg substitutes you can cook with) and I'm looking forward to giving that a try.

If you have empathy or a conscience it really is quite 'nice' to know that you can eat (and enjoy what you are eating and be fully nourished by it) and not have any animals suffer (at all) whilst doing so. ;-)

The thing that I love to see is when cows, horses, sheep ... rub their heads against each other. Then the mothers lick and nuzzle their babies ...

If you know / understand and can still accept that and be happy to consume the products that propagate the process then so be it.

It's different for the stupid / ignorant, un-caring or young kids because they don't know ('ignorance is bliss', not for the animals of course) or you feel the need to shield them from what is really the 'ugly truth' (the kids).

It's funny how many people do actually try to defend the indefensible though, until they see the light themselves (as with ex-smokers).

Yes.

Not for food, but for humane reasons.

But when it comes to hairy coos and baa lambs I know full well what they exist for. It's no different from all those lovely Kevin the Carrots in the garden - they're getting pulled in their prime and destined for the saute pan.
