Thanks Tim, posting the message was partly a test, if I could read it things must be OK just the NG going quiet then.

Hi all! Is anyone experiencing problems with Eternal September? I have not received any messages to the NG now for several days. I know things can go quiet at times but not for this extended period.

Not that I noticed, and I can see your message. TW

Close down your reader and reopen .

The last post before I posted was on the 1/11/26 in the DIY Tax thread then quiet until my message popped up.

Half term weekend

Of which 58 were plonked...

I don't use ES, and I've seen no messages for a couple of days.

Much as google allowing posting to usenet was sometimes a cause of frustration, the lack of it seems to have massively reduced the wanted traffic as well.

True, but "think of the children" isn't helping either.

To an extent, I suffer from the 1984 scenario where any communication can be investigated. d-i-y bookcase construction is pretty benign but I have business related questions on storage space which might be of interest to such as my local authority:-(

No posts in this group on 2/11/2026 but other groups I read received posts. All sourced from Eternal-September. I also have news.blueworldhosting.com as a backup & there were no posts to this group on the 2nd Nov either.

I wonder when US boarder patrol demand that travellers let them see their "social media" posts, whether they even think to look at usenet?

Indeed.

BT bullied me into signing up for their *Cyber Threat Protect* system which required me to delete Avast!

A Dark Web search turned up some mention of me 15 years ago:-)

I doubt it, but they probably lock you up if you claim not to have any

*proper* social media accounts.

I have Facebook and LinkedIn, only. Do they count?

Has there ever been an 'official ruling' on the status of Usenet as a 'social media'? Not a serious question obviously, but I assume that US boarder people must have some idea of what _they_ mean by it.

I would argue that many of 'the usual suspects' are anti-social media - but my views are not mainstream.

I'm sure they would treat that as either a) Subversive behaviour[1] or b) Lying.

[1] But they wouldn't spell it that way.

Much of the traffic these days appears to be produced by Russian bot farms... (when a big Russian data centre got hit a few weeks ago, many commentators noted how much "nicer" many social media platforms became, and Reform related discussion in the uk fell by over 80%!)
