Electricity prices - Standing Charge, Standard Energy and Offpeak Energy

Those look very close to the capped rates, so just about what everyone is paying

That was my thought, but also how the difference between off-peak and standard seem minimal. A good advert for gas heating.

The standing charge might be cheaper if just using standard electricity.

Course they have. servicing stuff takes energy in fuel. Making new sires cists more for similar reasons.

If energy doubles you can expect 25% inflation on EVERYTHING

The cost of everything tangible you buy ultimately depends on the number of man hours it took to make it including what it took to make what is used to make it, and supply the energy to make it

Plus the profit you can claw off the top of it

Short gas supplies simply takes money from your pocket and puts in in Saudi pockets or Kuwaiti pockets.

Fracking it instead would put it in UK pockets.

What is their "justification" for the standing charge increase? because they can?

Double the old cost for a kWh or double the daily rate?

I managed to shift to a 12 month fix (with no exit fees) earlier this month. 43.something p per day standing charge and 26.something p per kWh. I am very glad I did, before prices go up even more in April and possibly October ... assuming that the current Ukraine situation doesn't have a drastic effect before then.

We were on 26.something p per day and 14.something p per kWh before that, but the company folded and our protected period ended.

What I pay has doubled. Really can't be arsed to get the exact breakdown right now. Mainly because it doesn't achieve anything.

So blaming the likes of Arwen, Barra and Eunice

To pay for SMART Meters? To fund the "cash back" loan we are getting from the government? Basically that is what the cap has gone to, if thats what they can charge I am sure thats what they will charge.

I suspect off-peak has risen because the sun never shines at night, electric cars need charging at night and so there is no longer a surplus of generation capacity at night.

Doesn't matter who gets the blame. Could be Daffy Duck for all the difference it makes.

That annoyed me as well, but it was the best deal I could find (with the company we'd already been moved to).
