electrical sockets suitable for a car port?

In a carport? The ground may be wet from dew, but I would expect the shade of the roof to prevent enough radiative cooling to stop dew forming on the car.

I would not count on it... having said that its the socket we are rather more interested in, not the car. Dew is but one source of moisture. Hosepipes and car washing would be another potential source.

The point of significance is that there is a requirement that electrical accessories are chosen to be appropriate for the location and environment they are to be used in. For a socket that is too all intents "outside" (even if with some protection from the elements), a conventional "inside" socket is not going to be well suited.

Thanks for the replies. You are quite right, moisture could get into the sockets without it raining on them. I have no grumble with TLC. I have shopped with them myself and found them very helpful if you send an e-mail. I suppose it would be nice if they offered free delivery over a certain value, which all other companies seem to do. I will check out those links to see if there's anyone I've not heard of before.

Oh right, yes. I was commenting on the side-issue of the dew. There's quite enough evidence here that the socket needs better IP rating than an indoors one.

But TLC's delivery is excellent. I've had stuff delivered to workaddress as I'm not at home in the day. They not only found the correct building (something that has defeated many a regular supplier) but even found my office delivered the goods to me personally.

Any surface which falls below the dew point will suffer condensation.

You can "fold your own socket" if you wish.

You could use a 20mm female conduit adapter with 20mm round conduit through the wall, into the back of a 1G 35mm backbox, with SFCU (Switched Fused Connection Unit). That way you can isolate it from the neighbours drilling your locks out, but cordless angle grinders still work although "excuse me mate, my NiMH suffered self discharge, do you mind if I plug in to charge it before finishing off your battleship padlock on your shed/workshop/minuteman". Also, should any water get in you can isolate it until convenient or from tripping off whatever circuit you have it connected to.

if you have no convenient place inside to take off, you could look at the "outdoor socket kits". They come in many flavours, most use a plug- in RCD on the inside and the outside varies from a hole-thro-wall into a length of SWA included (not seen that type for a while, think it was a gardening website actually re pre-assembled modular jobbie).
