Electric shaver technology - worth buying a newer model?

If you haven't replaced the foil it will be very sad. Braun recommend 18 months, I would say 12 is nearer the mark.

I doubt you would be astounded, but given the cost small cost difference between a new series/3 very a set of blades, I would say its worth it.

Given the small price difference between a replacement foil (or set of blades), and a brand new shaver, I think the price structure is a real rip-off.

Isn't that true for all shaving gear? However the third party alternatives I have tried are useless...

I use a Philips rotary shaver. Had it for years. I bought a sharpener for the cutters, and use it every few months. The heads are more robust than foils and don't seem to wear.

I too kept a vintage Braun going for many years. One of its attractions was that it would accept anything from 12 V dc to 240 ac, so handy in the caravan.

In the end I thought I would give the WAHL Groomease Travel Shaver

a try, and if it wasn't up to it, I would get another as my main shaver. That was not necessary. I use rechargeable batteries, which really seem to last.

I just use hair clippers/beard trimmer, it doesn't give a clean shave, but good enough if you don't care, or if you care so much you do a manual shave afterwards. I've never bought new blades.

I swapped from a Phillips to the Braun. Would never go back...

I swapped the other way.

Upgrade by getting a 50 year old Braun. Serisouly, modern shavers are pants compared to the better oldies. Shavers have 'improved' in the sense that marketing departments see things, not really though.

Those are 2 very different animals, and people often have a strong preference for one or the other. Anyone that hasn't tried both should.

I've used a Braun for years. At one time it waspossible to replace just the foil. That was 'improved' by having to replace part of the head. At present the whole bloody thing hs to be replaced. Increased costs all the way

I disagree, Braun heads are cheap compared to the Philips ones ....

I swapped from a Phillips, to a Lidl centre isle special cheapy, and I wouldn't go back. It has near enough the same head style, rechargeable - like the Phillips, and does as good a job, for 1/4 th cost.

This thread makes me curious. I've only ever had one electric shaver, like, but not, a Braun, and it was awful. It felt like it was plucking, rather than cutting. So bad, I never tried again. Now I just use hair/beard trimmers, which is fine, it cuts, not plucks. But, it takes a long time and isn't a close shave. I only bother once a week, which thankfully seems more socially accepted nowadays.

Is this Lidl one painful?
