strange tap

The wash hand basin in the holiday let had the usual two; taps, one hot and one cold, with he traditional controls knobs (4 legs with round tip). The cold tap operated as normal, rotated anti clockwise for 'on'. The hot tap worked he opposite way, clock wise for 'on'. Never came across this before

If you have lever operated taps, one of them works the opposite way (if they each open by turning to the sides of the basin, one turns clockwise and the other anticlockwise).

Perhaps the basin had lever cartridges fitted, and then somebody changed the tap heads for traditional knobs?

+1 . Or someone bought a symmetrical pair of cartridges instead of a pair of quarter turn conventonals...

Maybe it was designedby the speaker of a language which reads right to left? I was going to say a left handed person, but I have a lot of left handed friends who wonder why you cannot get left handed Scissors. I have come across level controls on equipment where the left and right volumes turn opposite ways, so obviously there has to be a reason. Brian

All my taps go clockwise for on and anti clockwise for off. However on the bath, the hot is on the left, and all the others in the house the hot is on the right. Brian

We had a pair of left handed scissors for years. None of us are left handed.

But they were in a sale.

Must have been the same builder as my house, built in 1983 in Alderholt to the west of the New Forest.

You can get left-handed scissors - we spent years where the primary school kept commenting that our middle son was poor at cutting out and we kept pointing out that they were only providing right-handed scissors.

You can also get left-handed 12" rules, left-handed corkscrews and a whole lot more.

Why can't I get a left-handed microwave oven? The door opens in the direction that I need to move the contents towards in order to remove it from the oven. I end up having to balance a hot container while I manipulate it far enough away so I can close the door so I can then put the container on the counter.

I've seen ovens with double doors...

Or doors that open downwards.
