E.on, E7, Smart meter

Ping Brian Gaff.

IIRC didn't you say E.ON couldn't do E7 Smart Meters?

Had an email from E.on this morning (almost) telling me that I had to have a Smart Meter. Rang 'em up(*) to reject their kind offer but their systems where down. I still asked if E7 ruled out a SM but they said no, they can do an E7 SM.

(*) WTF does the automated system want my DOB?

I'd wait for some sort of written (and actionable) confirmation first. You might have been unlucky and got the first call centre agent who doesn't have a complete grasp of the situation. There has to be a first for everything.

If his contract with E.On is for an economy 7 tariff and they fit a smart meter which doesn't support E7 I fail to see why he's need "actionable confirmation" before claiming breach of contract.

And if they were to do so I'd suspect c*ck-up rather than conspiracy as E.On and others have been fitting SMs that support E7 for quite a time now. A c*ck-up they'd have to sort.

DOB is commonly one of the "user authentication" checks.

It's a crude way of checking that you are who you claim to be.

Stupid tho given that facebook requires it so its available to many others.

Note I tried to reply personally as well but you have munged your address unlike myself.

Mine was EDF. Maybe they have not paid their tech guy enough.

I don't want one and was calling to tell them that but also checking to see if their system (which should know that I have E7) had cocked up.

No she didn't have to waffle or um or er. She knew the answer. When I call tommorow I'll check again.

But it didn't ask for anything else, I guess it has the CLI so could possibly link that to my account but I don't think E.on have my DOB in the first place. Telephone version of a captcha?

Do you know who you are ?
