Dust hose with smooth outer

googling for "hose sock" finds several, if you think £25 is reasonable.

You can buy braided cable sleeving in various sizes, including 30mm, but often in 25m lengths.

Not specifically starting with 115.x, but I do seem to need to click the offline/online button every now and then, which I never had to before

... and this does the "chinese finger trap" thing where pulling lengthwise makes it thinner. So push, it fits over the end bits, and pull and it snugs down to a close fit on the hose.

I'd thought about this, but the ones I've used in the past (for cabling) have been stiff once the wires are inside so I think there's a risk that they would make the hose too stiff.

Do you remember "French Knitting"? Stick some small nails into one end of an old wooden cotton reel and...

Making "tanks" out of the wooden cotton reels with rubber bands, matches and a slice of candle was preferred here ...

I'm all for DIY but, sadly, life is rather too full to knit myself an empty snake ;-)

You probably don't whittle your own furniture out of the solid, I'd be prepared to bet.

Don't know if they still have it, but some time ago I bought a 30m box of 32mm hose from Rutlands. It is fairly light weight with a fine pitched spiral construction (I find it screws into some of my tools directly).

It slides nicely over things without snagging. I normally have a 5m length of it draped over a ceiling joist in the workshop, with the vacuum end poked into the end of the dust extractors larger diameter dust hose.

The ones I got were flexible: not quite as floppy as a sock, but easily rolled up into a 10 cm coil, even the one that had a seam with velcro on it. It was offered in over 20 colors and patterns, seems they are used for case modding!

Ha! No, but I do buy 2" thick 6-8ft waney-edged Ash and Oak boards and convert them into furniture. Two of us struggle to lift one onto the long-suffering car roof bars.

I ordered something similar and it works a treat - thanks for the suggestion.
