Deseo locking system - need replacement

I have been asked to replace a uPVC front door locking system, as the current one seems to be for a back door in that it remains openable, from the outside, until the key is used to lock it, from the inside (or outside).

I'm having trouble tracking down the supplier of the locking system that has been used in the door and do not want to have to replace the whole mechanism... just the lock in the middle, not all the hook bolts, around the rest of the door edges.

Anyone know of this manufacturer and if I might be able to get the correct lock that I can just swap out with the existing one?

cheers deano.

Sorry, should have said. I found this link but the number is not in use! Seems to be some kind of listing on a directory for builders.

Anyone used/sourced one of these locks?

I'm not sure you need replace the lock at all. We had this problem when our front door was installed - if just pushed closed it could be opened from outside. When I complained, the salesman said that's how they all are. A call to the company and a chat to an engineer got a swap of the handle unit. What you need is a split spindle handle set. No need to change the lock unit at all as I remember it.

That's interesting. And, can I take it that the split spindle handle set doesn't necessarily have to be from the same manufacturer as the lock, i.e. Deseo? Otherwise, I'm still in a bit of a jamb ;-)

This is a bit of a nark with the new door we had installed at the back of the house. It occurs to me that changing the mode of operation will need a change of any acquired habits to avoid locking yourself out.

AFAIK the spacing between spindle and lock is a standard distance as is the spacing between fixing screws, so I suspect any make will fit - but I'd still measure first!

Cheers Norman.

Your input opened the door (sorry, pun not intended till I read what I wrote!).

On further investigation (by myself) the lock has two spindle 'openings' (one above the other), the top one operates both the locking 'hooks' (around the door) and the 'latch', while the lower one operates the 'hooks', but not the latch.

The solution therefore would appear to involve either two different handles (inside and out) with each using a separate spindle, for exterior 'hooking' and interior 'hooking & latching'! Or a 'specialised spindle' such as a 'split spindle', which seems a perfect solution!

I am now trying to source such a spindle and it's not easy, as specs are paramount and no supplier (so far) is willing to advise (and source a part) without having the whole mechanism at hand, for reference.

Not something the customer is happy about!

And so it goes on....

cheers, d.
