DECT phone

Only handy place for a phone in the workshop is mounted to the window frame behind the workbench.

The existing DECT phone which was rather untidily mounted on a home made shelf has died - so it would be nice to get a replacement which looked better.

So needs a wall mounting base station/charger which is no more than 75mm wide.

Alternately - there are several other DECT phones in the house. Would a single additional one/charger work with another base station?

DECT is supposed to be a standard, but different manufacturers tend to add additional features which might no be accessible from a none matching phone. If all you need is the basics - should work fine..

If it's GAP compatible it should.

How does it know not to simply find a base station signal from next door?

You go through a pairing procedure. Details in your handbook or on-line.

It might -but you have to tell the extension phone which base to use. If it's not yours then it won't "pair".

Because the base needs to be set to 'pair mode', to allow it to pair up.

Yes, I have one Philips unit, and the main 'phones are Panasonics. The Philips unit works as required, but it can't see the Panasonics' 'phone book. Telling the unit which base station to talk to is called Registering.

After wearing myself out looking at Ebay and so on, bought one from Argos for 19 quid delivered - not a stock item at a local store.

It's a (Siemens) Gigaset A120, and the base station can be wall mounted.

Not the cheapest DECT you can buy, but does the job needed here perfectly.

I've generally been happy with our Siemens DECT Gigaset phones. I chose them originally because of their VOIP abilities.
