Where have you been for over 25 years?! The sale of bangers was banned in the UK in 1997. And if you try to buy a reloading powder you'll need a firearms licence.

You can buy the ingredients of course, and make your own, but when I tried it over 60 years ago it just didn't work like the commercial stuff in penny bangers did.

Grain size is different. We used to make excellent bangers out of neoprene tubing, sodium chlorate and sugar.

You can make sodium chlorate by boiling bleach.

Oh. And you can buy .22 blanks for Hilti guns without a license

Another alternative are Stage Pyrotechnics - the advantage being that they normally have electrically operated detonators.

But they are expensive.

Propane powered bird scarers as used by farmers make good bangs and AFAIK don’t need a licence to use , though there is a code of conduct. Not sure what category the bangers on ropes like this come under <
