I know somebody answered this a while back but can't find it on google.
What is the rule regarding distance between the hob or oven and the (IMO pointless) wall switch ?
Also for the oven which is buried in the wall can the switch be just above skirting board level just to the side of the oven ?

Yes, the regs are in an accessible location in close proximity so this is fine.
The switch should be within 2 metres but not directly above the hob.
