Have you had a holiday yet this year? Tiles are stupidly cheap in French DIY stores. I have just come back from France and was looking at floor tiles. Special offers at 6 euro per sq m - that is about £4 sterling. Adhesive will be more than this here!!

Wicks do a 8 inch (4 4" in one) tile, use a 1mm spacer and you can't tell, for about a £10 per meter.
