only niggle I can see is some fonts which I think ought to be san-serif look like they're using serif font.

The thing that annoys me is that the website relies so much on the mobile app, that you might as well use the mobile app for everything.

Never used it, but the impression is that it's a single point to transfer everything

Odd. 97.0.1 here doesn't work. Chromium does, so that at least a way in.

I've got an odd one there. Barclays app on my pretty new Samsung S21 Ultra. Says device not suitable for touch payment.

Downloaded the BarclayCard app. Looks identical to the Barclays one - other than logo, etc. And that does allow touch payment with the phone. But oddly only using my debit card, not Barclaycard. Both appear as choices.

Can you not simply change the browser signature? I had a period when I had to make my laptop pretend it was a mobile phone running a browser to make some (can't remember) web site work sensibly.

I had a custom profile that I used for just that web site.

Correct, there is an "industry standard" process which from my experience works perfectly.

Can't help you particularly with chosing a bank, when Tesco closed their rather good current account I decided the choices were between Nationwide and Starling, as advised by Which?

A mate of mine who does a fair bit of investing is very happy with Starling. I went with Nationwide.

Once you have chosen a bank, you don't need to use the above link. You set up your details with the new bank and somewhere on the web site there will be a form where you specify the account(s) you want transferred to it, and your new bank does all the work.

The one bit of crap I had from Nationwide wasn't really to do with the transfer. The first bank card that they sent out to me never arrived. It didn't take long to get a replacement, just made for a few days delay. However, a couple of months later my card and online access all locked up. After a load of bollocks from the front line customer support (Just come into a branch if you need cash, never mind that it's a 40 mile round trip) they gave me the fraud department.

It turns out that the first card they sent out, which of course had long since been cancelled, eventually made its way back to them. At which point it tripped the process that locks everything up (although at least it did not stop direct debits going out). So I had another week without any access or services while they sent out yet another new card.

I mainly use it on the laptop. No experience of other banks ones, though.

Think banks are like ISPs or other large organsiations. They work OK for most, but annoy when they don't for you. Changing in a fit of pique may or may not bring an improvement.

The other common problem I've encountered with a few financial web sites if you have previously cleared your cookies is that they want you to confirm your (new) cookie preferences before the page works correctly. Sometimes the confirmation is only in a little strip box at the top or bottom of the screen and can be overlooked when attempting to enter user/passwords.

ISTR there's something "outdated" about the way you authenticate to your barclays account? It wasn't using the same method as anyone else's last time you had a problem with it ...

I moved from HSBC to Santander. I use the Vivaldi browser (based on Chromium) on Linux Mint Cinnamon with no problem. Firefox works as well.

Direct debits aren't the problem. The main problem I had was remembering to inform ALL savings institutions (NS&I and suchlike) so they could send me interest payments. Likewise most savings institutions won't pay your money to anywhere except the nominated bank. If you don't change this promptly life can get a bit awkward.

The LloydsTSB site seems to work OK with Firefox on Linux Mint, though I haven't exhaustively gone through all the functions.

I don't find Barclays have a problem with that, I always clear cookies, and I use uBlock, don't have need any exceptions for barclays site, I run an add-on that just hides most cookie warning pop-ups.

I do use Santander for a business account (because barclays wanted to wait 2 weeks just to discuss an appointment to open an account, santander opened it same day)

One thing I think is really weak about their sign-on process, they don't use a two-factor device, and they don't even ask for characters X, Y and from your passphrase, the way they do it allows a browser to save the customer number plus the whole password and logon with no intervention :-(

Many Barclays investment accounts have been integrated into the main internet banking app and web site. However there may be others that have not... Does yours have a separate web site?

Was it originally Barclays one, or one they acquired (like Woolwich, or Charles Schwab etc)?
