Car DAB radio question

Mine does a similar thing for "Times Radio" which was renamed from "TalkRadio" when it launched, the name is right, but the icon out of date.

I haven't found a way to refresh it, I'm a bit loath to do a full factory reset using my OBD-II lead ... is it a VW group car?

I wouldn't touch DAB with a bargepole, personally. It's another thing that has been improved beyond all usefulness.

Probably better off getting a good data packaged, and pairing your phone to the audio and using that to stream from the internet.

TBH I still often use FM. That works quite well in places DAB has no signal.

I never had a problem with FM. DAB was solving a problem the public didn't have.

In heavily built-up areas, DAB works while FM doesn't. In nopen countryside both work - generally, but multipath (which used to cause 'ghosting' on tv) can wreck FM. I first got an FM radio for my Cortina in 1974.

And if the radio was portable, DAB introduced a whole new problem of battery life.

The logos are a download from the brand's support sites, and many other wannabees. Also the maps can be updated.

See google / youtube / AI etc....

It's all rather more complex than it need be, and if you brick the hardware, then you have a dead vehicle..... a more serious issue of expense and inconvenience than just having some other item of IT broken by an update.

I've not bothered. Just plug in a phone, enjoy your media from that.

For the past 10 years that has been my preferred approach. The ICE is merely a terminal to my "system" of choice, rather than the manufacturers "Ours is the best" s**te offering.

During the first 3 years from registration, the car had a 4G connection using an eSIM (required for the eCall emergency system) but the data connection has expired, and renewing it is stupidly expensive v.s. just using your own mobile phone's data.

I suspect the eSIM is required for downloading icons?

My 2017 Skoda (Columbus Audio) doesn't have eSIM, or any emergency system, but it can be connected to WiFi. Or the updates placed on a flash memory card / USB stick.

A friend has just bought a fairly new Ford Focus, it has plenty of optional things that are extra cost upgrades (a'la BMW) - but make no sense when ye can just connect a mobile phone, which has a much more simpler and logical interface.

However, Ford have not engineered a place that you can rest said mobile phone, and the fine mesh in the electrically heated front windscreen kills the GPS pickup, so folks will abandon that and pay the extra Ford subscription.

Job done. A dark pattern, to achieve more income, and slurp the user's lifestyle habits.

Are you sure? I have a 2017 Fiesta with a heated windscreen. My older Garmin satnav sticks to the windscreen and works perfectly.

My phone sits in one of the cupholders, connects by Bluetooth and works perfectly too.

I never had any problem with satnav stuck to the electrically-heated windscreen in my 2013 Fiesta.

I have never even attempted to use my cars satellite navigation system and what I listen to comes off a USB memory stick.

And the TVs at home are seldom used for receiving broadcast TV anymore.,..
