Bulkhead/photocell problem

Nov 10, 2009 3 Replies

I bought the 100W Bulkhead with photocell, code 83449 from toolstation.co.uk. Fitted no problem, but as it goes dark in the alleyway the light flickers for over 1 hour before fully going on. Is their a problem with the photocell, do I need a special bulb(they suggest 100W GLS BC lamp), that will just go on/off ?/

Any ideas

Thanks.

What lamp is fitted? It might be that the photocell is more sensitive to the type of lamp you have fitted and is turning itself on and off with it's own light. Have you tried shielding the photocell from the lamp?

What kind of bulb is in it now? You may have difficulty buying a 100W GLS lightbulb, maybe that was your point - no smiley :-) How about one of those new QH bulbs within a GLS envelope jobbies?

Where does the photocell look? As it's an alley, it could be seeing reflected light from the wall opposite. Try adding baffles to force the lamp light down, or make the photocell look only at the sky.
