Boilers and frost stats

Just got a new cabin pak (external in an enclosure) warmflow 90-120 model

boiler manufacture recommends that frost stat is fitted but dont specify a particular model.

I dont want something that will run the boiler continuously when the temp gets below 3C say or the boiler will run all winter (as it doesnt heat up the outside) so im guessing its possible to get some sort of frost pipe stat which detects the pipes are warm enough ?

Anyone have any experience of this and can recommend something... have already contacted warmflow once but they were rather vague....

Ideally you need an external waterproof frost stat located on the north side of the house(no solar gain), this should be set at about 2 deg C and should bring the pump on only (first stage). Secondly, you should have a pipe thermostat located on the return pipe to boiler, this should fire up the boiler if the pipe return temp drops to approx 10deg C, it should have a wide differential (say 10deg C) so as not to have multiple starts on the boiler. P.S. I'm assuming of course you don't have a combi boiler. I know very little about those.

If you had bought a Firebird their outdoor model comes already complete with a frost stat within the outdoor insulated casing and keeps the unit from freezing by maintaining the air temperature within the cabinet at (or near) the set point. If you employ an S plan control with a bypass the frost stat runs the boiler and pump thus heating the boiler and primary pump circuit but not the house heating or hot water. For further savings you can fit a frost protection pipe stat set to about 20 degrees C which stops the burner before heating up to a high temperature. Make sure you have sufficient cores available in the connecting cable from your wiring centre to boiler cabinet.
