black dust on inside of kitchen cabinets (2023 Update)

After having a kitchen extension built, we noticed a black dust substance inside some cabinets in the utility room. It's probably a mould problem, as it does return after wiping off, but the wall to which they're attached doesn't feel damp. Just wondering if this is anything to get worried about? The cabinets are mounted on an exterior wall.

Its not metal filings from the drawer runners is it?

I don't think so. It's sticking to the back of the cabinets on the inside. A black powdery substance that wipes off with a cloth.

Could it be the builders have created copious amounts of "Black Talcum Powder" by drilling into breeze blocks and draughts or convection currents are carrying it about.

I also have that issue but it’s covering everything under the kitchen sink. Could something have exploded . .?

It's probably black mold spores!

If it comes back after being wiped off, its mould.

And you are 16 years late.

Unless it is dry rot, Jim, in which case it will have gone *everywhere*
