So do you think Tom Cruise can really pilot a jet fighter plane?

No, for that you'd need John Travolta, maybe Harrison Ford, though he seems to be screwing up lately, landing on taxiways and such and IDK if he's jet rated.

It is one thing to make a movie and another to be a spokesman against something. The movie Top Gun is fake, but Baldwin was not only in a movie, but in years past he has spoken up against guns many time. You would think as simple as a gun is that he would have basic knowledge of the gun. Especially safety .
Now if Cruise was speaking against fighter planes I would expect him to know a lot about them. You often see many fights where the 'good guy' takes out 5 or more 'bad guys' at one time. I doubt that any of the movie stars outside of 3 or 4 could even take out 2 or 3 people in real life.

Hell yeah, old Tommy-boy has the Right Stuff!
Seriously though, your question is kind of apples and oranges off-target.
There are more guns than people in the US. The approximately 393 million US guns are distributed among about 42% of US households.
So how many jet fighter pilots live on your street or are fathers of the kids on your son's Little League team?

Don't agree. Baldwin is against the use of guns as they kill people. That does not require knowing the intricacies of the various models.
Do you think passengers on cruise ships should know how to swim? Navigate a ship?

People speak out gains nuclear weapons. How much do you think they really know about them? They know what the end result of their use is and that is what they are against.

They can speak out against them, but they do not have their finger on the trigger. They are not in movies making money about using the nukes either.
That is what I dislike about Baldwin, He speaks out against guns, but uses them to make money and while it is not really his fault , he kills someone using a gun. Now why does someone speak against guns and still uses them to make money? Typical double standard of the people in the US.

If taking a militant stance against something, like Baldwin does with guns, then you would think he should know something about them.

Yet he makes millions in movies glorifying gun violence. The only good thing I see from all of this is the call for Hollywood to stop using real guns. They can't be trusted with them.
I know you folks love to hate the NRA but if they had an NRA certified armorer on that movie, they would still me making this movie and nobody would be dead. I was in an NRA sanctioned skeet league. A dozen of us were trained by NRA (an IBM requirement) and in spite of thousands of live rounds being fired a night, nobody was shot or even in any danger.

The gun haters that hate the NRA do not understand guns or the NRA. With the NRA safety is paramount.

If he wasn't the typical liberal hypocrite, he wouldn't make movies glorifying gun violence. I guess you just have to follow the money. A gig's a gig.

To refute your points:
There's nothing intricate about following the NRA's basic gun safety rules- numbers one and two being treat every gun as loaded and keep it pointed in a safe direction.
And sure, guns can kill people- but they can also be used for self-defense. Sometimes even just seeing a handgun in the good guy's holster or long gun in his hand will dissuade the evil-doer with nary a gun being pointed or shot being fired. Happened for me three times in my nearly eight decades.
You're still apple/orangeing with the ship example. Ship navigation and fighter piloting are highly complex activities that take years of instruction and practice to master and only a few folks attain proficiency.
Making sure a gun is unloaded and keeping it pointed in a safe direction on the other hand are simple tasks even a nitwit like Baldwin can handle ;-)

Au contraire, it is absolutely his fault. He was the one who failed to check the gun- then cocked, aimed and pulled the trigger. Duh......

I suppose that is the issue with Hollywood and guns. Their whole business model is based on pointing guns at people and shooting them. I agree with those who say they should never have a real gun on a set because the basis of the industry breaks all safe firearm rules.
I am not even a fan of things like laser tag.

It was his mistake to rely on the person that handed it to him and told him it was safe not to check it himself. After all he was pointing it and shooting it at people.

Damn straight. The next time Drew Barrymore is in an actioner and is using a firearm - she had better know everything about it and all the gun safety regulations ! ... L - O - friggin' - L

Was he glorifying gun violence? I have no idea what the movie was about but you seem to think it glorifies gun violence. Can you elaborate on that please.
Does Wyatt Earp shooting a bad guy glorify gun violence or does it portray historical facts?
E
Ed Pawlowski
I thought fund raising and politics was. I'm not a gun hater but I have low regard of the NRA. I do shoot but do not send them my money.
E
Ed Pawlowski
Really? Hand a gun to a bunch of people at random and see how it goes,

Do you really think Baldwin could be trusted to know the difference between a blank and a live round?
