What gets me are reports he was told the gun was safe. I believe it, but why should he even have to be told the gun is safe. Why is there anything other than a safe gun anywhere near a movie set? Even if no one told him, he had every right to assume it was.

But each person in the chain should have checked before saying anything to the next person and before pulling the trigger. Not the kind of thing you can rely on someone else for.

Sounds like murder to me. There is no scenario on a movie set to use live ammo. If there is some convoluted reason and actor is actually shooting live rounds, the armorer should have held that gun until they were rolling, the person he handed it to was trained and had it pointed down range.

Maybe that is why gun folks have so little respect for Hollywood.

Oh, heard report there were two shots fired on the same set a few days ago.

But today, a lot of the crew walked off in a labor action and they kicked out the others, union members?, who didn't walk off and hired replacments. Even then, if there were no guns with bullets in them even an incompetent couldn't mess Baldwin up.

No matter how much incompetence there was, it was still Baldwin who thought it was a good idea to point a gun at his boss and pull the trigger.

Maybe the gun control should start in Hollywood. They had 2 ADs and a killing at one movie set in a week and nobody seemed to care until the director died.

This is the part I can not understand. Why do you people speculate without _any_ verifiable facts? What you get from any soi disant "news" source is irrelevent and useless.

There is one fact, someone f'd up big time. Makes you wonder since the guy handing him the gun was fired in 2019 for a similar incident.

Trump Jr is selling T-shirts "Guns don't kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people" What a scum.

It's pay-back for Baldwin's SNL works. This apple fell very close to the tree .. no filters ; no conscience like dear old Dad. John T.

Baldwin sounds like the typical Democrat. He does not mind making money off movies with guns, but speaks out against citizens owning them.

In 2018, Baldwin joined a celebrity coalition, No Rifle Association (NoRA), whose goal was to shine a light on the National Rifle Association's alleged hold on the United States government.

We?re going to shine a bright light on what you and your organization do to America," the NoRA Initiative wrote in a 2018 letter to NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre (via Deadline). "We?re going to make sure the whole world sees your bloody hands. We?re coming for your money. We?re coming for your puppets. And we?re going to win."

The "It's Complicated" star has also gone after former NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch on social media.

Maybe you are calling Baldwin the scum ?

NRA is corrupt, IMO with LaPierre. I'm not against guns but no way would I send money to that group. Oh, not a fan of Baldwin either but the T=shirts are a bit too much

For anybody that doesn't have Baldwin's track record it would be a tragic accident. If you want to be a loud mouthed gun grabber, don't expect a lot of sympathy if you kill someone through careless firearm handling.

The woman is quoted as saying loading blanks was scary. The statement itself is scary since that was her job. The person i haven't heard from was the armorer who walked out. (assuming these clowns actually had a qualified armorer) They have interviewed other real armorers who said what I would expect. The armorer loads the gun with blanks they examine and hand it directly to the talent, right before the scene and take it away after the cut. They use the term "chain of custody" with that gun. Nobody else gets to touch it.

Reminds me of that old saying about wrestling with pigs. Some people don't mind denigrating themselves.

The biggest question out there is how a live round was at the set location and how it got there. Like I said in the beginning, one possible scenario I can see is that maybe someone was using the guns to do some shooting in the desert during their off time. This will likely turn out like aircraft disasters, where it takes a series of mistakes or failures for the disaster to occur. That's why they are so rare. One of those links in the required chain was probably the armorer being replaced just hours before.

The story I am seeing is that the stage people were using the guns with live ammo to do some shooting. Just shooting at random things for fun during the down time. That should never have been allowed. There should never be any live ammo on the sets. I don't know if OSHA covers the film industry or not, but some agency should and set the standards for safety.

If true that would explain where the live round came from. Then we still have at least one other failure point, probably more than one, in how it was in the gun at the time. Maybe you have heard, but I haven't, did Baldwin intentionally fire the gun or did it go off accidentally? If he was not supposed to fire it, then they might have had it loaded with realistic looking rounds that should have been deactivated ones. That would make it easier to mix up with a live round, though you would think the dummy ones would have clear markings on them to distinguish them. It's also possible that the gun was never checked at all, that someone picked it up thinking it had been checked or someone picked up the wrong gun. If it were you or I, we'd do the final check ourselves, especially for a scene where it's going to be pointed at the camera and crew. But Baldwin apparently wasn't that interested. Another simple system would have been that when a gun has been loaded with blanks or whatever that make it safe, it would have a visible tag placed on it, secured to the trigger guard, that the actor removes as the final step. Maybe a different color tag, green for just dummy rounds, yellow for blanks, etc. And where the person who has loaded it, checked it, puts their initials on the tag. It's not rocket science.

Baldwin was practicing drawing the gun so he pulled th trigger . It was no accident the gun went off, but it was a mistake that someone left the live round in the gun. Even worse mistake was letting the production people use the guns for live fire just to have something to do while having down time.

There was a report of another gun going off a day or two before this hapened. The whole crew should have been rounded up and checked for live rounds.

In a way I do not blame Baldwin for not checking the gun. It should have been checked and handed to him by the armorer. Whoever handed him the gun said it was safe.

I would like to see Baldwin spend about a year in jail to reflect on things. He was a spokesman against people owning guns. Then he uses them to make money and in the process kills someone.

You sound a bit conflicted there, not blaming Baldwin but then wanting him to go to jail for a year.....

It was the assistant director who handed him the gun. It was reported that he was fired from another company a couple years ago for gun safety issues. Baldwin may have more possible exposure in this than just being an actor. I heard he was one of the producers, probably has a financial interest in it, etc. How responsible that makes him for what was going on, IDK. But he's also not like an absentee investor, he was right there, could see what was going on.

Most conscientious gun owners would still check the gun no matter what they were told.
