OT Eye exam, 20/30?

I wish I could use drugstore glasses. Unfortunately, my astigmatism is severe enough that can't see clearly unless that correction is also ground into my corrective lenses.

Try driving almost any where in Costa Rico outside the capital city or the pan-American highway. You can't speed. The "roads" are commonly full of blind curves, steep hills, and are narrow, whether or not allegedly paved, and have ruts, potholes and sometimes even partial washouts almost continuously. Oh, and side roads are rarely marked with any name or number. Forget renting a car. Use public busses or local guides.

I was talking with a group of men today and one was telling of a woman that he knows. She was a North Carolina license examiner. At the same time 3 Latinos showed up and they all had a birth certificate with the same name and birthday on it. She sent them away but got in to trouble and the DMV sent her to another county to work.

Seems that the workers are under pressure to give them a license so they can register to vote.

I am not sure but think that some states do not reqire any insurance. Often the minimum insurance will not cover everything if more than one other car is involved in the accident.

That used to be the case for Maine but I'm not sure now. Massachusetts required insurance and you picked up your plates at the insurer, not DMV. Foolproof? One study at the time found the uninsured driver rates in ME and MA were almost the same.

Selling a license that lasts 8 years to anyone probably makes money for the state as not only may someone die but they might move out of state or become incapacitated to drive.

I order glasses on line for around $ 50, Not sure where they come fom but the company is in the US. All the parts could come from anywhere as far as I know.

I have astimatism and have 2 kinds of glasses. One bifocal is for near and far. The other is for near and then about 2 or 3 feet away for working at the computer.

The prices at the eye doctor office and some others for $ 200 and up are a big ripoff for those of us that do not care what the glasses look like but just want to see clearly.

Always worth taking a search through the Big Box of donated eyeglasses at your local Goodwill/Habitat/Lions/Council of Aging/etc.

There's a reasonable chance you'll find something that'll be good enough (if not perfect...). And triply so, it'll get you a pair you can use for "the duration" if you lose/break your good ones.

Been awhile but Zenni Optical cost about $75 for bifocals with memory titanium frames. All they need us pupil distance which eye doctor can do or you can even do it yourself. Wife was criticizing me for buying from US company that has them made in China so I showed her the box with my last local pair and it said, "made in China."

You haven't thought this through. The come to the US either because where they live is too dangerous, they themselves may have been directly threatened or their children, or they can't make enough money for a decent life. They have a real incentive to come her. And in practice, there is no other way to come here except the way they do.

What is the incentive to vote? To be one out of 100,000 in elections where most of the time one guy wins by 20,000 votes or more. In the presidential election, unless you live in one of the 6 or 8 battleground states, your vote is a waste anyhow. Do you think they will call attention to themselves when they have nothing to gain.
