We have local rental places for many of the high end cars. There is a strong supply of people willing to enjoy such cars while they can afford to rent them and pay for the insurance. The cars are very visible in town and on the highways.

Sadly all the common gas and EV cars and most of the colors available make the other cars just blend in with the crowd. Thankfully there are enough high end cars around to show us what fun can be enjoyed if you are willing to dream when they go by.

The only thing that stands out around here is that weird Tesla pickup - and not in a good way.

There was a car show here in our small north central Arkansas town today , mostly Corvettes . The hit of the show was a quarter-million-dollar McClaren ... The owner said it's supposed to be capable of 230 MPH or so but he backed off at 160 .

Europe has speed limiters in cars now and there is talk of doing something in the US. Some cars can read speed limit signs and most have navigation with the speeds on the roads too.

Should they do it?

How fast should you be able to go? I've driven has high as 130 just for short time but not practical and subject to big fines. There has been many car chases in the 100 to 140 range that ended in crashes and sometimes death. Aside from the "mu dick is bigger than yours" mentality do car have a reason to top 100?

It's been at least 20 years since I've gone over about 80 or so ... I'm pretty sure all 4 of our licensed vehicles will top 100 , but see no reason to drive that fast .

I was pleased that there was a car rental place only a block from my brother's apartment in Hollywood Beach, in case I needed a rental, and by golly this year I needed one. Some were 200 to 400 for half a day!!!

Too much for me even to say I'd driven one once.

And it was probably just a depot. The cars were somewhere else and you had to order one in advance.

Even at the airport was much much cheaper than that.

I have exceeded 100 passing on two lane roads. It wouldn't be pleasant to be halfway past a tandem tractor trailer and have the rev limiter kick in.

Before the state adopted a daytime speed limit 100+ was perfectly feasible on I90 and I94. The legal limit now is 80. That does improve fuel economy. Bikes don't have much frontal area but most have the Cd of a barn door.

I ran into a pack of slow moving cars many years ago while in my Cavalier Z-24. Eventually I figured out they were holding up for some lead car to tell them the road ahead was clear and they left me in the dust very suddenly.

Once I ran into a Viper owner as I pulled in for dinner one night in my new Yellow Mustang GT. We parked our cars and talked before having dinner with our respective companions. Afterward we met again and he suggested we swap cars for a quick joy ride in the parking lot. That was cool.

Unless you want to drive faster than 80 stay out of Charlotte NC. I live about 40 miles from there and only go when I have to. Last time I was in the second lane of a 4 lane highway through there marked 65 MPH. I was going 85 mph just to keep up with the slower traffic. I do not know how fast they were going in the two other lanes but I was getting passed almost like I was standing still.

I normally only try to drive about 5 mph over the posted limit and still get passed much of the time on the other interstates in the state. Not sure how fast I was going but I had a 1969 Dodge Swinger 340 and the speedometer toped oiut at 120 mph. I was on the interstate going about the speed limit and not much traffic. Saw some headlights comming up fast and as it passed it said State Trooper on he back. I flowered the car and he was going down the road faster than my car would go and I let off the gas after about a mile or two when he was way ahead of me.

Around here it's hard to go much above the speed limit except for a few stretches . Once we get out of this area (like going to Memfrica to visit the kids/grands) there are some long straight roads , where I usually go about 5-7 above the posted limit . Except going through those small towns along the route that have lower posted limits . And a JP on duty 24-7 to collect the fines .

I do not know about now but years ago going from NC to the SC beaches there used to be some small towns like that. You would get pulled if you were from out of state and going 5 mph over the limit. Did not have to go to the JP, just pay off the cop that stopped you.

I do not know if it is true but heard that the interstates were first built partly for emergency landing strips for the military airplanes so there should be some streight streaches for a good distance.

I've done about 130MPH in a Valiant - in that car - plenty fast enough!!! 104MPH across Montana in the dead of winter in a Dart - also fast enough!! 95 in a stock '53 Hemi Coronet wagon - also plenty fast enough!!! and over 145 in a first generation Supra - DITTO!!!!! That said - 60 wide open downhill with a tailwind in a '49 VW splitwindow bug is TOO FAST!!! (Cable brakes - - - - )

Don't do it with out of state (particularly Canadian ) plates though! Them "County Mounties" can be downright EVIL when they decide they don't like your politics!!!!!
