Because when something is "free" it's not conserved. Not everyone has an unlimited, cheap, water supply. Do they meter gasoline ("petrol") on your side of the pond?

People do. I watched my irrigation like a hawk, after that first $300 water bill.

...and if it's not raining, just squeeze the air and you'll get as much water as you need.

When we lived in Vermont, one of our neighbors moved from Seattle. She said she thought Seattle was gray but it was downright sunny compared to Vermont in the Winter. From November 1 to May 1, the only time the sun was out was when it was below -10F.

Sure, we have these things called "cups", here. They hold water very nicely.

The longest winter of my life was spent in Bristol VT. You know it's bad when you drive down to Glens Falls NY and it's already spring.

Nuclear is not really cheap when you look at the end to end cost. The actual operation is cheap but building and permitting the plant is not cheap, nor is cleaning them up when you close the plant.

Or maintaing/retrofitting - which costs as much as the initial build.

Oh go back to your treehouse.
