Bathroom remodel lighting suggestions?

My husband & I are remodeling a pocket bathroom on the first floor of the house. It has the original light fixtures (two glass globes which hang on either side of the mirror from a chain) and the exhaust fan, which is no longer working. The light fixture is attached to the ceiling about 4" from the wall above the vanity. We have removed the hooks from the ceiling that hold the chains on either side of the mirror and covered them with wall patches. We are trying to determine our next move: 1) run wires from the original junction box to the exhaust fan and install a dual function decorative light/fan OR 2) run wires from the original junction box down the wall to either side of the mirror and put in vanity lighting. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a code that would be relating to these wiring changes for the state of WI? What should we be taking into consideration if we try to install vanity lighting on either side of the mirror....HELP! We're stuck! THANKS!!!
