In the past I've always had problems with lettuce/spinach/bok choi bolting way too soon . So this year I decided to plant them a lot earlier than I have in the past . The envelopes say "as soon as the soil is workable" so ... today I planted lettuce , spinach , bok choi , and beets . Last frost date is about 6-7 weeks out , we'll see how this works .

I tried to do a late crop of spinach here in Seattle once which grew to
2-3 inch plants before the grow season ended. We must have had a mild winter, because it was still alive in the spring. I transplanted it to a sunnier bed, and it grew like gangbusters. It grew into gigantic plants, maybe 15 inches or more tall with 6-8 inch leaves.
I just put them in a partly shady spot.
I've done a lot of tree removal work to get full sun at least most of the day ... and I might take out a couple more trees this year . At least the trees are oak and make good firewood .
