OT: Pointless 'safety' warnings

When I was last in Canada, I was told that the numbers are measurements in metres, to allow for demolition and rebuilding of different size dwellings.

Hmm, well my satnav runs a Linux varient I believe... and one of my PCs did have a parallel boot version of SuSe on it once (but I needed the disk space)... Oh I know, I have a linksys NSLU2 NAS box that interfaces my topfield PVR to the network, that has a distro on it! ;-)

You're safe then. Note that it's also possible to run specialised Linuces on entry level routers. I've been playing around with that it's a great deal more stable and functional than the crappy stock firmware.

Not their fault, is it? Anyway, Linux is nothing like Unix - it's a different system made to look a bit similar.

I hope to have real Unix running here within a few weeks - but not Sun or Apple.

I just bought a small stockpile of NSLU2 boxes as I understand they are about to be discontinued. There are a raft of custom firmwares available for them to do all sorts of stuff from routing, firewalls, storage etc. They make quite a nifty low power and size box for about £40 a pop.

It's ideal as a small office box for an SME type of customer - i.e. their internet connection and printing, little bit of file sharing etc.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember Invisible Man saying something like:

I volunteer as a measurer.
