Sliding Cabinet Doors

Making cabinets for the closet above the rack for the hangers and because of space issues considering using sliding doors instead of hinged. Haven't seen a lot of hardware out there for sliding doors, most of it for full size doors. Ideas?

you can buy hardware for this, but it's not hard to do in the shop. in designing your tracks, avoid dirt traps- that is, where you have a groove, make the open edge of it be pointing down, and where you have a rail make it stand up rather than hang down. for the sliding parts use the hardest, tightest grain wood you have in the shop, and give them a good coat of wax. remember to allow extra room at the top to be able to lift the door onto and off of the rail.

Fine woodworking has an article on making wooden doors for cabinets. It is not difficult and will look better than buying metal or plastic runners. Several features presented make the doors slide very well.
