Cutting of timberframe members is progressing. All dozen braces (diagonal
> members between posts and crossbeams) are complete as well as all girts,
> loft joists and a few perlins (girts are the small horizontal members
> between posts and perlins span main rafters)

> 1. Choose two adjacent sides from which all refences will be measured. These

> 2. Square off bottom of post
> 3. Layout all joinery measuring from the bottom and the two reference faces.
> 4. Use a 1" auger but to drill out the corners of all mortises
> 5. Use a 1-5/8" forstner bit to drill out the centers of the mortises
> 6. Plunge-cut the sides of the larger mortises with the circular saw
> 7. Crosscut the mortise housings with the circular saw
> 8. Chop and pare mortises until I can pass the feeler gauge through them.
> 9. Cut tennon at the top of the post with a circular saw
> 10. Finish tennon cuts with hand saw.
> 11. Drill peg holes with a 3/4" auger bit, 1/2 way through from each side. > >
