railway sleeper chair help reqd.

Have just aquired several sleepers and would like to make a 2-3 seater large scale chair for in the garden. Is there a site where I can get some ideas or plans on how to do this? All the sites I've seen cut the sleepers down and use them as a source of wood but I want to use them as they are so they will become a giant piece of furniture. Appreciate any help, Cheers G.

The only thing I've ever seen railway sleepers used for was a retaining wall.

How much space have you got ?

There's a cycle path near me with a nice bench done in railway sleeprs. Think Adirondack, on a large scale. The sleepers are in two groups, with halved joints cut into the sides of each. Half of them are at a shallow angle to the horizontal, to form the seat at the front and resting on the ground at the back. The seat back is formed from a fan of them near vertically, interspersed with the seats.

I'll try to find a picture of it.

I think this is less of a problem in Oz, but I'd be wary of using sleepers for seating in the UK. Ours are disgusting with preservative and they ooze like crazy on a hot day.
