This is accomplished on the PC by putting on a much smaller blade AND increasing the plunge by about 1 additional inch.
Can you make your DeWalt do that?
I really don't know if the DeWalt has an extra small blade

Well, I do not think that it does, more importantly IIRC the DeWalt cannot be set to plunge and extra inch over the "20" setting to allow a small blade to reach the wood. The working of the PC Plate Joiner are more articulate than the DeWalt. The PC has normal plunge settings for the regular biscuit sizes but when you remove the bottom plate and change to a smaller blade you also adjust a lever that allows the tool to plunge about 1" farther than normal.
They don't.
