been a long time and this may be the last sale. 30 % off all my planes. the price includes shipping. brass screwcaps are 25.00 extra and my regular woods are padouk ipe purpleheart and shedua. other woods like cocobolo and such are extra and the cost depends on the plane. Knight-Toolworks

I'm looking at the smoothing planes. I'm curious if anyone has perspective on the difference between the coffin smoother and the finish smoother.

The hammer you want to use is from Chester Toolworks. It's a sweet little gem, brass & lignum, and lightweight. Steve sells them.

I sure miss having the time to do the finer things. Gotta finish that darned kitchen!

I have only the coffin smoother and it is a joy to work with, after you beat it into adjustment (just kidding, I hit all my pretty tools with big hammers).

the coffin is good for pushing and doing large surfaces for longer periods of time. the finish plane lets you hold the plane in different ways push or pull one handed and such.

Got one and use it. It is sweet.

Just that a 'beginner' finds it strange to beat on fine tools, even with fine tools.

A kitchen's just for food. Work on the important stuff!
