You need to possibly both lightly sand any gloss off the paneling and to apply sizing or a wallpaper primer. Then, the stuff will stick for decades.
- There are a few things you can try if you are having trouble getting wallpaper to stick to paneling:
- Make sure the paneling is clean and free of any dust or debris. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the surface and let it dry completely before applying the wallpaper.
- Use a wallpaper primer or sealer on the paneling before applying the wallpaper. This will help the adhesive to stick better to the paneling.
- Use a heavy-duty wallpaper adhesive specifically designed for use on paneling. This type of adhesive is stronger and will provide better adhesion.
- Apply the wallpaper paste to the back of the wallpaper, rather than the wall, before hanging it. This will help to ensure an even coat of adhesive is applied and will make it easier to smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles.
- Use a wallpaper brush or roller to smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles as you hang the wallpaper. This will help to ensure a smooth and seamless finish.
- Consider hiring a professional wallpapering service, they have experience and the right tools to make the job done right.
- Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific type of wallpaper and adhesive.
If all else fails, you could try using a paneling adhesive specifically designed for paneling, this adhesive is specifically designed to stick to paneling, it may be worth a try if all else has failed.
