Zone 2 or not

I have a wall lamp fitting that is above a bathroom sink, but far enough to be clear of zone 2. I was wondering whether it was a) safe and b) allowed to replace the lamp with a fused spur and run both a wall lamp and an illuminated mirror off this spur. The mirror I have in mind is IP44 and whilst the spur will remain outside zone 2, the mirror will be partially inside it.

If the mirror is IP44 then its allowed in zone 2. It will likely have a separate PSU that needs to be outside.

I read it that the OP was using a sink to define the zones.

Now IMHO

formatting link
applies and the sink should not be used to define zones. However
formatting link
suggests that a sink can define a zone. I know that I have removed at least one reference to sinks and zoning from the wiki - there is nothing in the regs that says a sink defines a zone

Should I also remove this one?

I would say that the OP is fine to go ahead with his work.

Yup the wiki is in conflict with Fig 8.1 in the OSG - basins don't count now.

Agreed.

Interesting, thanks.

I don't think basins ever did count in any edition of the regs - it was a made up rule in the installation manual of a B&Q lightfittings:-)

While the electricians are alert...

Having fully fitted out the shower room (Toilet, hand basin and shower all down one wall) a little voice has been heard saying *can we have an electrically heated towel rail?*

Now there is a ring in the bedroom next door and I could probably break into the circuit where it loops through the loft but I don't want to chase the wall vertically and will end up with a 600mm horizontal run to avoid the shower.

Clearly, any exposed flex needs to be short but what is a reasonable length?

Depends how clumsy you are.
