wood to plastic glue

I have a plastic lid to a 30L container:

I want to stiffen up lid with plywood disc .... either side Thought it would make sense to glue and through bolt .....

Anybody know of a glue that will work .......... not after much in way of structural strength, unable to confirm what type of plastic it is ... could use 'Sticks like s***t' or a Low modulus silicone

Unless anybody has a better idea

Use silicon and bolt it through the wood and plastic.

Doesn't work either, but then photovomit never does.

Its probably using some sort of spyware /tracking that has caused it to be in violation of Natural Philopsohers' Internet Rights.

Looks like it might be polyethylene / polypropylene, in which case conventional glues are not much use. Why do you need to stiffen it? Will you be trying to fix a pipe or duct to it, for example?

Sandwiching with plywood sounds like a good strategy. If you use something like bitumen mastic as the "butter" you will generate a lot of shear strength between the wood and the plastic, and reduce stress concentrations, it will also be tolerant of movements from differential thermal expansion, or from the effect of water on the plywood. No more nails sets to a rigid, brittle product.

I think that would work too.

I want to stiffen the lid as in needs to support a cyclone unit .... which is about 320mm tall .. onto which the pipes will attach .. as this means quite a leverage on the lid wanted to stiffen it.

Anyway did the job yesterday .... made up 2 x plywood collars (like large polo mints) and sandwiched the lid between these with 5 x M4 bolts .. and put a nice coating of silicone on both wood to plastic faces ... all pretty stiff now - without being brittle.

Trying to glue wood to polypropylene was not going to be successful.

You didn't say it was ployprop. That's almost as bad as nylon or polythene
