Wing mirrors on cars

Your basic error is that the turbine doesn't compress intake air.

The turbine extracts mechanical energy from the exhaust and delivers it by turning a shaft. In one case the shaft drives the crank, in the other the shaft drives a compressor. How does the turbine know the difference?

In F1 engines the turbine is connected to a system that both charges and compounds (by electrical connection). It is reckoned they are approaching 50% efficiency so I get the impression they have a fairly good idea about what they are doing.

Right, the boost pressure is merely a marketing gimmick.

It doesn't, the laws of physics do. The compressed air doesn't help push the pistons around, it simply allows more fuel to be burnt per stroke.

In fact the compressed air opposes the pistons movement on the compression Nut this whole thread is turned into bollocks by dr6092's misapprehension of the fact that most piston engines of the aircraft variety do not use exhaust recovery to drive a turbine that drives the crank.

And that this is in any case not what is called 'turbo-charging' or 'turbo supercharging'

In short he is a bear of little brain who has discovered an obscure feature of a couple of US engines used briefly in the 1950s and thinks he knows all there is to know about superchargers and turbochargers.

Frankly I wouldn't waste any more time, you are right, and he doesn't understand to the extent that he's not even wrong.

It DOESN'T matter what you were replying to . Only that you replied with the message "Doesn't interest me".

So you were interested enough to reply with a 'not interested' post. > Learn to use the internet properly or f*ck off.

The 'correct' way to post to a usenet post is to crop all extraneous material. Remind me who is it needs lessons.

It wasn't unnecessary. Look up the word "context" in a dictionary, the come back to talk to the adults.

I decide what is and isn't necessary in MY posts.

And I decide who I can be bothered talking to. Quote at least three, preferably five depths, or f*ck off.

Actually it does help push the pistons around.

Suck-squeeze-bang-blow.

With the supercharger running the suck not be a suck. The piston will be forced down by the pressure of the air.

Yup! As you are quite entitled to do.

What, even if they have NOTHING to do with the point I am replying to?

You ARE replying to a psychopath. If he had the guts, he would hurt people. Fortunately for society, he is a gutless nobody. But, one day this lump of shit will explode.

Without telling me why I wrote what I did, I have no idea what your point is.

Given a supercharger is driven by the crank which is driven by the pistons, you've just invented perpetual motion...

In what way would growing a pair enable me to quote profanity?

Sigh. My point (for the hard of thinking) is that you were interested enough in a post to reply to it, it is ironic that your post was "Doesn't interest me".

Oh and I have no idea WHY you wrote what you did. Do you perhaps mean what?

More fun in bed? You sleep with engine parts ? Doesn't the oily grime get on the sheets

..and dirty the engine block? :O)

I read an engineering thesis years ago that described an attempt to modify a Ford flathead V-8 so four cylinders would provide the power and the other four would be the supercharger. Not a success.
