Water meter

:) I saw how much jetwashing uses - that should be banned! I tried to grow butternut squahes at home and the slugs loved them so I didn't have to water them for very long... We use a lot of water on the allotment I know. The rain barrels don't last very long in the hot weather.

I had a good attempt at economising during a drought a few years back and got down to 10 cu m per year (27 litres/person/day). I now seem to use about 15 cu m per year (41 litres/person/day), although on one night, a broken ballcock managed to waste almost

2 year's worth at that rate.

Did you make a claim against the water charges when you had the "leak"?

Not a claim as "where there is blame there is a claim" but many water companies do give a reduction in the charges for internal leaks. This is usually a one off reduction.

South East Water clearly stated somewhere on their paperwork that they didn't do this. My household insurace would cover it, but at something like £30, it wasn't worth the hassel.

Well that is fair enough.

I know that Yorkshire Water can allow special provisions for major internal leaks and allow a reduction in the bill.

At an estimated £30 wastage I agree it is not worth the hassle.
