VW emmisions

Actually, it is with the gross difference between what they are allowed to do and what they do.

And its rather unlikely that those who Panorama got to check cars only bothered to check the Zafira too.

Um, no. Producing "out of test" results that exceed limits isn't actually illegal I believe. The tricky part is proving that a specific cheat is being employed just to pass the test. The use of "test defeating software" is illegal.

The program was more about "proof of principle" than holding the whole car industry to account. Yes it would have been nice if they had had the time and money to test more cars but "where there's smoke..."

And what they claim to have found with the Zafira is nothing like what is seen with the VWs which don?t just exceed the emission standards when cold.

Its not really that difficult is it? Czech republic is hardly the back of beyond compared to somewhere like Tibet. Top Gear / Formula One / Rally teams etc shift vehicles to much further destinations frequently. A lot of films /TV are made in that part of the world so shipping vehicles for use as props will be a well rehearsed exercise so any program maker probably only has to facebook around their contacts to find out who will handle it.

Fraid so.

It is when its as gross as what VWs do. That's why VW got slugged with such an immense fine. They wouldn?t have paid if that wasn?t illegal.

Completely trivial to do what when the car operates completely differently when moving to when it isn't.

And completely trivial to prove that it has that.

The result they claim to have got with the Zafira was nothing like the result seen with the recalled VWs.

I just don?t believe that they fluked out when they just tested the Zafira and the Passat.

If there actually is fire, its completely trivial to prove that.

Panorama hasn?t done that. There is no fire.

Just more shit journalism from the BBC.

The original testing that caught VW so spectacularly wasn?t done there.

Must explain why there are so many corpses of all those who have done any testing ever since the shit hit the fan originally.

You don't think so?

You don't think that VW haven't got their best engineers on the task right now?

They'd be idiots not to (OK, so they're proven idiots already)

And have they found anything?

Nope!

Well quite. It's been known for 'ever' that test results are no real indication of real world figures. Just look at MPG claims.

What was new was deliberately arranging things so the vehicle new it was being tested and fiddled the figures.

Why would you take a vehicle with you

why don't you just use one that is already there

as the company in question is VW, just use a Skoda and it won't even have left the county it was built in

Well Land Rover didn't - or if they did they made a complete arse of it given my VED band.

You're replying to Wodney.

One of the dead giveaways with Wodney apart from his always using Microsoft Windows Live Mail 14.0.8117.416

is his frequent recourse to the words "trivial" and "trivially".

Which is not related to your NOX production (the subject under discussion), only your CO2 production.

Curiously, I could get my VED on one of my vehicles reduced by classifying it as an HGV.

Big motorhome by any chance?

Not that big (6.5m) but currently "down plated" as under 3.5 tonne. The chassis though is I believe rated higher.

Not gonna do it though as it would affect my legal top speed.

ISTR you'd have to retake the driving test to use a private HGV when you hit 70 years old, unfortunately this is looming on the near horizon for me which is why I didn't bother to up plate my Rimor. ):

If GM had fitted a cheat device why did it fail the official test? It needs more investigation as the Zafira must have passed at some point. It may be a faulty car.

It is much more likely that those are trying to work out how to comply with the standards with a minimal effect on the performance and mpg.

Yeah, they'd certainly be trying to find evidence that everyone else had done it too. Bet no one who matters was that stupid because of the result VW got when that was discovered, as was entirely predictable right from the start.
